Erebus lies beside her, and the familiar darkness suddenly grows warm. Nox places a hand beneath her heart. A second pulse answers from within.

She knows her daughter before the light: not by radiance, a name or a purpose, but by movement inside herself. This makes the birth of the cosmos bodily. The first day begins in a mother’s body rather than in the sky.

Silence changes its weight. Darkness begins to part. The first horizon finds its curve around the second heart: both the line of the coming world and the line of a belly where light is growing. Before morning has a name, Day already knows Night’s touch.

First, Aether rises above them. Then Hemera opens her eyes. She sees no emptiness that she must conquer. She sees her mother waiting for her gaze. Nox holds the child close enough to see the world for the first time through her sight.

And something happens that even Night has never known. Before light appeared, darkness had no edge. It was everywhere, and so could not distinguish its own hand from the space around it. Her daughter’s face rises, and a line appears between Nox’s palm and the air. Light creates more than a visible world: it returns a form to the one who gave birth to it.

In the ending, the first knowledge becomes the first look. At first, daylight knew that Night was holding it. Now it reaches into the black and sees the darkness looking back. This is neither horror nor a victory for light. It is the quiet tenderness of a being who has seen her mother’s face for the first time.

The coda makes the discovery personal: Nox turns and understands that darkness has her outline.

Author’s lyrics from the final package. Audio comparison follows upload.

Erebus lay beside me. His breath was on my skin. The dark that held us both grew warm. Then something moved within.

I laid my hand beneath my heart. A pulse replied to mine. I knew you first by how you moved, before I saw you shine.

The stillness changed its weight. The dark began to part. The first horizon found its curve around a second heart.

Before morning had a name, I felt you move in me. I held the light beneath my heart, before the world could see.

Before morning had a name, before the world was bright, the first thing daylight ever knew was being held by Night.

Then Aether rose above us. His brightness filled the air. You opened both your eyes and saw my darkness waiting there.

I held you close enough to see the world your eyes were giving me.

The air could hold your light. The earth could wear your glow. I gave the brightness in my arms the name the world would know.

Before morning had a name, I felt you move in me. I held the light beneath my heart, before the world could see.

Before morning had a name, before the world was bright, the first thing daylight ever knew was being held by Night.

Until you shone, I had no edge. The dark was everywhere. You raised your face. A line appeared between my hand and air.

Before morning had a name, I felt you move in me. I held the light beneath my heart, before the world could see.

Before morning had a name, you reached into the black. The first thing daylight ever saw was darkness looking back.

I turned.

The dark was shaped like me.

In plain words

Day is born inside Night. Light does not destroy darkness: the daughter first lets her mother see her own outline. This is a song about birth and recognising each other.
